Steamship Wharf

Submitted by Resident Mark Kaus

I was web surfing and found this shot of our shoreline (www.bing.com/maps).

It clearly shows what may be the remnants of the original wharf. It appears "dogleg" shaped, and the square shape of these foundation cribs and their spacing seems to mimic the old photos. It appears to line up with Chaucer Ave.

The line of boulders is at the center top of the aerial view. I had often heard about the wharf but no one seemed to know where exactly it was located. I sent this to a long time resident, Kaye Hobbs, and she said that she confirms the location. She even said that, a long time ago, she found a wedding ring near the location of the dock with a date circa the 1800s.
